Randomism Or Determinism ???

Earth….Our home, our Abode, our Planet. Have we ever wondered what we are doing here? I mean, we go on with our lives, daily duties…for what…?? To one day die and vanish into nothing. I’m sure this must have bugged you sometime or the other if all our time here is just a blip or does it specify something. What I am trying to ask is, is our time on earth here a continuation of a well designed world or just a result of some random chemical reactions???

Let’s see what the experts have to say. There are supporters to both these theories. What the Randomist’s say is that there is no particular order to things and Life. Human evolution is just chemical reaction. If that’s the case, then it is very scary. What this means is that our life has no meaning and no purpose to it. Our life is just a coincidence. The Big Bang happened just at a random moment and the sun is placed at the perfect distance from us randomly. The oxygen we breathe is just random.

The Determinist’s, on the other hand have this to say in their support. Everything happens because something happened before it. Every event on earth is supposed to happen in a pre-determined order and what we do in life, on earth is already decided. If that’s the case then we should be able to predict things before they happen. Isn’t that where all this astrology about the future and crystal balls come in. They try to determine what will happen to us based on our past deeds. And if we can predict future occurrence, do we have the power to change it?

On a 3rd angle there are people who believe that both of the above theories are incorrect and there is a bit of both involved. They say that we as humans have a brain developed enough to think that there is a purpose to our life. So we assume that the nature thinks and acts the same way.

I believe that it’s a bit of both. The thought that we are just a random occurrence is scary, but at the same time you can’t rubbish it. I mean, what proof do we have to show that what happened was someone’s will and what is going to happen cannot be changed. On the other hand, the air that we breathe and the way our body works in perfect order cannot be just random. There has to be something that was in our favor and created a perfect human body. Even if one of the body parts had not been there or was working in opposite way, we would not be living.

  1. Interesting...I guess I'm a mix of both...I mean...I haven't really thought so hard about this...but I believe in destiny, fate and things happening for a reason...a bigger cause...but I also think a lot of things happen by coincidence....Nevertheless it was an interesting read. Good job Kushi! :)
